  • Industrial Strike Action 1.2.2023

    Thu 26 Jan 2023

    Dear parents/carers,

    Re: Industrial strike action

I am getting in touch to give you as much notice as possible that the school will be closed to pupils on Wednesday 1st February 2023.

Please find below our response to the proposed industrial strike action. You may be aware that the NEU (National Education Union) have declared strike action over 4 days as outlined below. The key issue is around pay, and the negative impact of this on the recruitment and retention of teachers, and therefore on the learning of pupils. This is not because of school level issues.

You will be aware that Teachers do not go on strike lightly. The NEU is the largest teaching union, and we expect a high number of teaching staff to be on strike on these days.

We have been continuing to review the situation and I can confirm that the school has taken all reasonable steps to try to keep the school open to pupils. Staff are not required to tell us in advance if they will be on strike. Any plans must ensure that we can safeguard all pupils on site, and ensure the health and safety of pupils and employees.

Following our risk assessments, we will be closing the school for pupils on the 1st of February for one day and will review the situation for the future dates.

The NEU has indicated that they will continue strike action following the initial strike on Wed 1st February, on Wed 1st March, and Wed 15th and Thurs 16th March. We recommend that you start to make alternative childcare arrangements for all of these dates. We are working closely with our staff union representatives to keep up to date with the situation, and I will inform you of any further arrangements or changes as soon as possible.

Any pupils eligible for Free school meals will be provided with a voucher for this day. School will organise this and contact parents accordingly.

Our school website provides a wide range of resources which parents and pupils can access at any time www.therosehillschool.com

I’m sorry about the disruption this may have caused, and ask that all members of our school community continue to treat each other with respect. Rosehill School remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our pupils and delivering high-quality teaching.

  • Rosehill Achieves ArtsMark Gold Award!

    Mon 23 Jan 2023

We are delighted to inform our school community that we have been awarded an Artsmark Gold Award!

    The assessors stated that:

'Rosehill School has enthusiastically developed your arts provision for your pupils through this Artsmark journey. Senior leaders provide strategic arts leadership including a focus on arts CPD in school INSET, which is developing the confidence, skills and understanding of staff. You have a new three-year creative curriculum that is representative of the diversity of your setting as well as wider society, with clear progression paths. You are involved in the Nottingham Creative Collaboratives action research which is working to improve the quality of teaching and learning and are developing the cultural community by linking to local creative practitioners and organisations including Dance Equation, The Handmade Theatre Company, and Nottingham Playhouse. You work to develop your pupils' ability to express their creativity through the Arts, and draw attention to the creative and cultural industries as career choices, for example through writing competitions and work with artists. In the planning of arts and cultural experiences, the views of children and young people are considered. Arts and culture helps them make sense of themselves, their world, and contributes to their wellbeing.

Congratulations on your Artsmark Gold Award!

  • National Education Union Strike Action

    Thu 19 Jan 2023

    Dear Parent/Guardian

The NEU (National Education Union) has informed us of proposed national and regional teacher strike action on the above days. The key issue is around pay, and the negative impact of this on the recruitment and retention of teachers, and therefore on the learning of pupils. You will know that teachers don’t go on strike lightly. The NEU is the largest teaching union.

Further negotiation talks at national level are due to take place, which means that these strikes might not go ahead. In the meantime, however, the DfE is advising schools and parents to prepare for these strikes.

At this point, we don’t yet know if, or how many, teachers at Rosehill might be taking strike action, but I do need to advise you to prepare for some disruption and potential closure of classes/the school on the potential strike days. As you will appreciate, many of our teaching and support staff are also parents of school-age children whose own children’s classes/schools may be closed, so this is a complex picture, which may also have an impact on the school’s operations.

Please therefore be prepared to make some alternative childcare plans for Wednesday 1 st February in the first instance, when your child/children might not be able to come to school. We will of course undertake a full risk assessment of the situation and make every effort to minimise disruption if we can.

I will update you as soon as we know more.

    Yours sincerely

    Cheryl Steele

    Headteacher
