Nottinghamshire Fire Service - Safe and Well visits

At Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service we are committed to making the communities we serve safer, and the best way to do this is preventing incidents from happening in the first place.

Home visits are a great way to do this as they are a proven way of reducing fires, fire-related deaths and fire-related injuries.

In addition to looking at your fire safety, we are now working with partner agencies to also offer advice on falls, keeping warm during winter, stopping smoking and alcohol intake. This is called a Safe and Well Visit, that in addition to fire safety, is tailored to an individual’s need relating to their health and lifestyle choices.

Many people are able to assess the risks in their home themselves and fit their own smoke alarms; the information on our ' Safety in Your Home ' page can help and further help with this can be sought by calling our advice line on Freephone 0800 022 3235.

However, if you feel you are unable to assess the risks in your own home, or one of your friends, family or neighbours is potentially vulnerable, we may be able to organise a home visit. Safe and Well visits take approximately an hour and involve firefighters, or members of our Prevention team, visiting your home to offer advice on how to make your home safer and what to do if you're trapped by fire.

They will also fit free smoke alarms if required and give advice and offer referrals to services such as smoking cessation and alcohol services if you are happy for us to do so.
