NEU (National Education Union) Strike Action 1.3.2023
Re: NEU Teacher Strike Days: Weds 1st March, Weds 15th + Thurs 16th March
The NEU (National Education Union) has informed us of further proposed national and regional teacher strike action on the above days. The key issue is around pay, and the negative impact of this on the recruitment and retention of teachers, and therefore on the learning of pupils. You will know that teachers don’t go on strike lightly. The NEU is the largest teaching union.
Further negotiation talks at national level are due to take place, which means that these strikes might not go ahead. In the meantime, however, the DfE is advising schools and parents to prepare for these strikes.
At this point, we don’t yet know if, or how many, teachers at Rosehill might be taking strike action, but I do need to advise you to prepare for some disruption and potential closure of classes/the school on the potential strike days. As you will appreciate, many of our teaching and support staff are also parents of school-age children whose own children’s classes/schools may be closed, so this is a complex picture, which may also have an impact on the school’s operations.
Please therefore be prepared to make some alternative childcare plans for Wednesday 1st March in the first instance, when your child/children might not be able to come to school. We will of course undertake a full risk assessment of the situation and make every effort to minimise disruption if we can.
I will update you as soon as we know more.
