Physical Education

At Rosehill School, we believe that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is vital and unique in its contribution to our student’s physical and emotional development and health. The physical education curriculum aims to increase student’s self-confidence through an ability to manage themselves successfully in a variety of situations.

The PE curriculum aims to:

  • Increase pupil’s self-confidence through developing their ability to manage themselves successfully in a variety of situations
  • To develop a sense of fun and talent spot individuals
  • To foster an enjoyment, and positive attitude to, the subject in and out of school
  • To promote positive attitudes towards health, hygiene and fitness
  • To foster an appreciation of physical exercise and movement activities to increase wellbeing and participation
  • To develop an ability to adapt and apply knowledge, practical skills and concepts in a variety of movement based activities.
  • To develop communication skills, to promote effective co-operation
  • To enable students where possible to work towards independence and to communicate positively towards others
  • To give our students the opportunities to develop and practice sporting activities skills.
  • To give our students the opportunity to try new activities, develop new skills and grow in confidence through an outdoor education programme
  • To follow the Olympic and Paralympic legacy by continuing to follow the values and ethos throughout the school and maintaining a knowledge of our countries sportsmen and women, including major sporting events

The Physical Education Programme at Rosehill, includes weekly PE lessons, includes morning running, KS2 swimming, rebound therapy, music and movement, gymnastics, and classroom-based activities such as Activate and Wake & Shake. All pupils are able to be involved in PE and can succeed at their own ability level, enabling them to progress in gross motor skills, which support many required to develop skills for adulthood. In addition, we aim to develop an enjoyment of activities, which will lead to improved lifelong health and self-confidence as well as social interaction.

Rebound Therapy has developed into a very popular lesson. Used as part of PE lessons as well as forming an important part of the day for those pupils on an individual timetable, Rebound Therapy (using the trampoline) is an extremely motivating activity. Its strengths are many; It is used to facilitate communication, movement and coordination skills, promote balance, increase or decrease muscle tone, promote sensory integration, and improve fitness levels. It is beneficial for all abilities from those who prefer to be seated when practising skills to those who can aspire to different types of jumps and routines.
