Class 4 (Square)
In Class 4 (Square), we have 8 students across years 4 and 5. There are 3 girls and 5 boys. We have lots of adults who help us in Class 4! Megan is our teacher and we also have 3 teaching assistants: Emma (Level 3), Debbie and Bhumi. Emma teaches us PE on Friday mornings.
Meet our staff...
- Our PE and dance sessions are every Friday - we do not need PE kit as we wear school running tops, but please make sure we are in sensible footwear.
- Our staff ask for a weekly contribution of £2 to help enjoy a range of healthy and tasty snacks.
Our Learning Environment
At Rosehill, our staff make sure to provide a language rich environment. We use a 'total communication' approach - our staff will model speech, Makaton signing and symbols and encourage us to use these too. Our staff also carefully consider our sensory needs and make sure our classroom environment reflects these too.
In our classroom we have lots of different rooms that we use throughout the day for different activities:
Group room - for whole/small group activities, morning and afternoon group, interactive whiteboard sessions.
Activity room - for 1:1/small group work and snack. We usually do our arts, crafts and messy play in here!
Learning zone - here we interact with our friends and staff, improving our communication skills. We have our continuous provision set out in here, along with free-flow to our covered outdoor area!
Reading room - Our reading room has a range of books and a cosy seating area that we use daily. There is free-flow between our learning zone and work room so we can come, relax and enjoy a book in here whenever we like.
Sensory room - this is where we can relax or self-regulate as needed.
ICT room - for 1:1 computing activities, other 1:1 and small group work sessions.
Outdoor space - we can enjoy this space during play time and outdoor learning.
We also enjoy and learn through accessing different spaces around the school. Each week we do a scavenger hunt in the quad, explore the woodland walk and enjoy sensory interaction time in the MILE.
Our day in Class 4
When we arrive in class, we complete our morning task by checking in and let the adults know how we feel before starting our morning group. Morning group focuses on developing communication - we see who is in class each day, choose songs about the day of the week, month of the year, weather and season and make selections about these topics for our 'today is...' board.
After morning group, we take part in daily exercise. We do different activities such as dough disco, yoga and wake and shake.
At snack time, we eat together and use our PECs or communication boards to request what we would like. We are always offered fruit or veggies first!
It is then time to do our learning! We have a lesson input in the group room where we find out what we are learning about that day. Then we go into the learning zone to explore our continuous provision and complete focused 1:1 work tasks. These activities are also available throughout the afternoon so that we don't need to rush through!
At the end of the day we celebrate our achievements and, if we have stayed on the green traffic light, we will get a a jewel for our star reward charts and a sticker!
