In Princess Class 4, we have 8 students across years 3 and 4. There are 3 girls and 5 boys. We have lots of adults who help us in Princess Class! Megan is our teacher and we also have 3 teaching assistants: Robyn, Karen, Jag and Rose, who helps in our class on a Monday. Emma teaches us PE on Wednesday mornings and Becca, the department lead, teaches us on Wednesday afternoons.
Meet our staff...
Our Learning Environment
At Rosehill, our staff make sure to provide a language rich environment. We use a 'total communication' approach - our staff will model speech, Makaton signing and symbols and encourage us to use these too. Our staff also carefully consider our sensory needs and make sure our classroom environment reflects these too.
In our classroom we have lots of different rooms that we use throughout the day for different activities:
Group room - for whole/small group activities, morning and afternoon group, interactive whiteboard sessions.
Activity room - for 1:1/small group work and snack. We usually do our arts, crafts and messy play in here!
Work rooms 1 and 2 - for 1:1/small group sessions.
Balance room - this is where we can relax or self-regulate as needed.
Learning zone - here we interact with our friends and staff, improving our communication skills. We normally have topic-based or sensory activities in our learning zone.
Outdoor space - we can enjoy this space during play time and outdoor learning.
We also enjoy and learn through accessing different rooms around school. Our favourites in princess class are the primary heart space, where we do morning exercise such as wake and shake and dough disco, the MILE, where we can relax and enjoy the sensory equipment, and the ball pool!
Our day in Princess Class
When we arrive in class, we check in and let the adults know how we feel. We then complete a morning task linked to the day's lessons. Morning group focuses on developing communication - we see who is in class each day, choose songs about the day of the week, month of the year and weather and make selections about these topics for our 'today is...' board.
After morning group, we take part in daily exercise in the heart space with the rest of primary. We do different activities such as dough disco, yoga and wake and shake. It is then time to do our morning learning!
At snack time, we eat together and use our PECs or communication boards to request what we would like. We are always offered fruit or veggies first!
After lunch, we brush our teeth and begin our afternoon learning. At the end of the day we celebrate our achievements and, if we have stayed on the green smiley face, we will get a sweet and a jewel for our crown reward charts! If we get all 5 jewels in a week, we get a special certificate.
