Dear parents, carers, pupils, staff and wider stakeholders,
We have recently been reviewing our approach to relationships, health and sex education (RSHE) across the school. As part of this, we are reviewing our PSHE and RSHE policy, aspects of the curriculum and the resources we use. Before this is finalised, we would like to share this with you and give you the opportunity to give your views and ask any questions.
As you will be aware following my annual updates, the Health Education and Relationships Education aspects of PSHE education is compulsory in all primary schools in England.
The Health Education, Relationships and Sex Education aspects of PSHE education are now compulsory in all secondary schools.
The content of this is defined by the Department for Education. Here at Rosehill School, we teach this through PSHE (personal, social, health and economic education) sessions which are delivered through directly taught sessions, class discussions and assemblies. Our overall PSHE curriculum is based on an approach recommended by the PSHE Association which is broken down into themes across the year.
It is not compulsory for primary schools to teach sex education beyond what is covered in the statutory National Curriculum for Science and in the statutory DFE Relationships and Health Education guidance. However, at Rosehill School if we feel it is necessary, we will begin to introduce sex education to some pupils earlier. This may include stages of human life, vocabulary for the main body parts and main physical differences between male and female bodies.
Part of our responsibility is to consult with you on our proposed sequence of delivery and take into account your feedback in our plans. Below you will be able to find:
We are keen to hear your views on our approach to RSHE as well as answer any questions you may have.
Please do have a look at the website Rosehill School - PSHE Consultation and the resources we have shared and if you would like to get in touch, please do arrange to come and speak to me or email Rosehill Headteacher headteacher@rosehill.nottingham.sch.uk by Monday 9 February. Your views are important to us.
